Material 16mm Lab Grade

Laboratory grade worktops, cut to your exact sizes in our Bolton workshop and delivered free across the UK. Made from 16mm solid compact laminate with a black core, they are chemical resistant, permanently moisture resistant, hygienic and very hard wearing, for school and college science labs, university and research laboratories, pharmaceutical and QC labs, and clinical and healthcare work surfaces. It is the same type of solid compact worktop that many people know as Trespa TopLab.

Choose your laboratory colour, list each worktop by length and depth, pick which edges you want machined, and watch your price update live before anything goes in your basket. Need sink cut-outs, tap holes or upstands? We make those too. Send us a drawing and we'll quote it.

Full specification

Specification: 16mm Fundermax Max Compact Interior compact laminate, high-pressure laminate to EN 438 with a solid black core and a decorative surface on both faces. Single-piece worktops up to 4080 × 1834mm in either orientation; we don't joint worktops. Optional CNC slight-round edge machining.

Performance: Chemical, acid and solvent resistant, with a hygienic, easy-to-clean surface that meets the stain resistance requirements of EN 438. Permanently moisture resistant, and scratch, abrasion and impact resistant. If your lab works with highly concentrated or aggressive chemicals, tell us what you use and we'll confirm suitability before you order.

Colours: White, Pastel Grey, Dark Grey, Glacier Blue, White Punto and Punto Pastel Grey. A sample chart is available for £2.

What is a laboratory grade worktop?
A worktop made from solid compact laminate with a surface that resists chemicals, stains, moisture and wear, so everyday lab spills and cleaning agents wipe away without damaging it. Ours are 16mm Fundermax compact laminate with a solid black core: there is no MDF or chipboard inside to swell or delaminate.
Is this the same as a Trespa TopLab worktop?
It is the same type of worktop: 16mm solid black-core compact laminate with a decorative surface on both faces. Trespa TopLab is the name many people use for lab worktops, but it is currently out of stock, so we supply Fundermax Max Compact Interior, made to EN 438. If you are matching an existing specification, send it to us and we'll confirm the right material.
Which chemicals is it resistant to?
Fundermax rates its compact panels as resistant to laboratory and technical chemicals, solvents (including acetone and alcohol), disinfectants and cleaning agents, and to many dyes and cosmetics, and describes Max Compact Interior as acid resistant. The surface also meets the stain resistance requirements of EN 438. As with any worktop, the concentration, temperature and time a chemical is left on the surface all matter, so wipe spills promptly. If your lab works with highly concentrated or aggressive chemicals, tell us what you use and we'll confirm suitability before you order.
Where are these worktops used?
School and college science labs and prep rooms, university teaching and research laboratories, pharmaceutical, QC and analytical labs, hospital and clinical rooms, dental and veterinary practices, food and beverage testing, and technical workstations.
What sizes can I order?
Each worktop is a single piece, 16mm thick, up to 4080 × 1834mm in either orientation. We don't joint worktops. Worktops up to 3650 × 1610mm, or up to 2780 × 1834mm, are cut from stock sheets. Larger sizes use special order sheets, and the builder will tell you if yours is one.
Can you cut sinks, tap holes and other cut-outs?
Yes. The online builder prices straight, rectangular worktops, and we make everything else to your drawing: sink and bowl cut-outs, tap and service holes, drainer grooves, radius corners and matching upstands. Email or WhatsApp us a drawing or sketch and we'll send a quote.
What edge finishes are available?
A CNC-machined slight round (eased) edge on any combination of edges: one or both long edges, one or both short edges, or all four. Most lab worktops have the front edge machined, plus any exposed ends. Choose No machining for edges that butt up to a wall.
How is pricing calculated?
Your price is worked out live from the sheets your worktops need, packed as efficiently as possible onto the most economical combination of sheet sizes, plus cutting and any edge machining. Free UK delivery is included. There is a minimum order of £640 exc VAT per colour.

How long does delivery take?
Delivery is free to UK addresses, and orders arrive within 6 working days.
